Entrepreneurial dreams often take root early, sparking ambition and inspiring big ideas. For some, those dreams never come to fruition. For others, they become the driving force behind building something meaningful. Yet, transforming a vision into reality can be a challenging journey, requiring support and direction. That is where we, the Chamber, come in—as dedicated advocates for small businesses, the vital lifeblood of our vibrant community.
In 2020, in partnership with Central Carolina Community College’s Small Business Center and Downtown Sanford, Inc., we launched the Real Investment in Sanford Entrepreneurs (RISE) program. RISE was created to support aspiring business owners in Sanford by providing the tools, knowledge, and mentorship needed to succeed. Whether participants are starting fresh or looking to refine an existing business, this eight-class program equips them with the skills to write a comprehensive business plan and navigate the competitive world of commerce.
Best of all, RISE is completely free to participants! This unique opportunity offers valuable insights into essential topics like financing, taxation, and legal considerations, all while guiding participants toward creating a solid business plan. At the program’s conclusion, participants can present their plans to a panel of business professionals for the chance to win a $5,000 grant to jumpstart their business.
Since its launch in 2020, the RISE program has made a remarkable impact on our community. Over the past four years, twenty-one new small businesses have opened their doors, fifty entrepreneurs have successfully graduated, and over fifty-four jobs have been created. These achievements are a testament to the determination, hard work, and vision of our participants.
