Sanford Area Growth Alliance announces change in Executive Leadership

Sanford Area Growth Alliance board announced today that CEO Rodger Sauls’ has stepped down as Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. The board has appointed Joy Thrash, as interim CEO to ensure a smooth transition until a permanent replacement can be appointed.

“It has been a privilege to serve the Citizens of Lee County as the first CEO of the Sanford Area Growth Alliance, and look forward to the next stage of my career as I return to private consulting,” said Sauls. “I am proud of what we were able to accomplish in the blending of two organizations and feel a strong foundation has been laid for future success. Lee County is blessed to have focused and committed leaders, both public and private, who are passionate regarding the future economic vitality of the community. “

 “We’re thankful for the leadership and dedication that Sauls has given the organization,” said Donnie Oldham, Chairman of the Sanford Area Growth Alliance Board. “We wish him well in the next phase of his career.”

On behalf of the SAGA board, Oldham stated “As we begin the search for a new CEO, we are fortunate that Joy Thrash, who has proven economic development experience, has agreed to be the interim CEO and assume this day-to-day leadership role.”

Thrash was previously the Executive Director for the North Carolina Defense Business Association where she led the NCDBA to become a full functioning corporation as a professional trade association for the defense industry in North Carolina.
