Chamber Chat - SAGA Chamber Classic

The Sanford Area Growth Alliance Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce the SAGA Chamber Classic that will take place on Friday May 4, 2018. This four person Captain’s Choice event is not only a great way to introduce a golf tournament back to the Chamber (it’s been six years since we’ve hosted one), but we are also pleased to present to the community the newly renovated Golf Club at Quail Ridge.

As of January 2017, the Golf Club at Quail Ridge came under new management, and major renovations really took off this past summer. They included new champion Bermuda greens, new TifTuf Bermuda Fairways, new sod surrounds all the greens and bunkers, new sand in all the bunkers, the new rough is Natural Sandhills Terrain, and over 150 trees have been cleared. The course was originally designed by Ellis Maples, and opened in 1967. This recent renovation was the first such renovation since its original opening. Quail Ridge was the home of an ACC Tournament in 1968, and a Men’s Open Qualifier in the 70’s.

The renovation has included almost everything at the course, including the grill. And at the helm of the project is Mike Hendley. He’s part of the owner’s group now, but was one of the first pros when the Club opened in 1967. “The layout of this course is great. The layout remains the same. Now we’ve got new greens, fairways and traps.” Hendley said.

It’s got quite a new look and feel. It reopened in October of 2017 and a membership drive has now started. From the novice to the professional, everyone is welcomed to join. For every new member that you bring into the club you will get a $100 discount on your membership fee or a credit toward merchandise or food. All memberships include unlimited golf, range balls, cart fees, and the use of the practice facilities.

The SAGA Chamber Classic registration has opened, and the early bird pricing of $60/person or $240/team of four will end on March 15th. You can register at www.growsanfordnc.com, or by calling our office at 919-775-7341.

There are also plenty of opportunities to sponsor the event, getting your business name in front of lots of folks in the golfing, and business industry. We expect 120 golfers from a variety of businesses. This is a SAGA - Chamber event after all. Sponsorship opportunities range from hole sponsorships for $100, up to a $2,000 Platinum sponsorship. And there are plenty of options in between. We’re pleased to already have FirstHealth Fitness as our Platinum sponsor, and Install, Inc as our Lunch sponsor. If you are interested in marketing your business through sponsorship, email Morgan Barbour at mbarbour@growsanfordnc.com.

“We’re really excited to be involved with SAGA on this tournament.” Hendley said. “The course is in really good shape. Come on out to play, watch, eat at the grill, and just have a good time.”
