Chamber Chat - Chamber Banquet Nominations

Dec 18

By Meg Moss

The Sanford Area Growth Alliance Chamber of Commerce will hold the 2017 Annual Membership Banquet on February 2, 2017 at the Dennis A. Wicker Civic Center. Each year, the Chamber awards are given to recognize the important role and contribution of businesses, business professionals and citizens in our community. Some of the awards that will be presented in February are Business Advocate of the Year, the Chamber Dedicated Service Award, the Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award, the Small Business of the Year, and the Richard Feindel Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Business Advocate of the Year tirelessly works to promote our business community, passionately fosters the entrepreneurial spirit, and often works behind the scenes. These are the people in our community who roll up their sleeves and do what is necessary to help others succeed…asking no credit for themselves. The joy for them is in watching others be successful. Honorees have excelled in providing customers, most of whom are other small business men and women, with a level of service that could be held up as an example to every student of successful business operations. Criteria includes owning or being employed by a current Chamber Member in good standing, having made a significant contribution to the business community, sits on either a non-profit board or is active in giving back to the community, promotes the community (including business, leisure activities, arts), is a respected business leader in the community, and has as a willingness to serve others with vision and purpose without personal gain.

The Chamber Dedicated Service Award gives recognition to someone who has demonstrated exceptional support of the Chamber of Commerce. Their contributions have gone beyond ordinary membership, and they have demonstrated a history of deliberate and conscious efforts to serve as a role model and mentor for present and future generations in our Chamber and community. This outstanding citizen has made Sanford/Lee County a better place to live, work and play.

Individuals who make the commitment to help others are essential links in bringing our communities closer together. The Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award pays tribute to individuals who use their time, talent and compassion to positively affect the lives of others in their communities or in the workplace. Recipients of the award help foster a culture of citizenship and service that acts as a catalyst for others to become involved in civic and social activities.

The Small Business of the Year is awarded to a business for their workplace excellence. This business is committed to their community, employees and customers. They show qualities to include perseverance, ability to understand their customer’s needs, and the ability to focus on the important things that make a difference. Criteria for this award include being a Chamber member in good standing, having shown steady growth, must have been in operation three or more years, and must employ approximately fifty or fewer people. The business must be independently and locally owned and managed, and must demonstrate dedication to the Chamber and community by giving time, talent and resources.

We encourage you to make your nominations for these important awards! Nominations must include the name of the business or person, contact information, and reasons why you feel your nominee should be recognized. We also ask for your name and contact information in the event we need further information. Nominations can be made by emailing the Sanford Area Growth Alliance Event Manager, Morgan Barbour at mbarbour@growsanfordnc.com. Or don’t hesitate to give me a call at 919-775-7341 if you have any questions!
