Chamber Chat - Banquet Award Winners, Part II

Feb 17

By Meg Moss

The Chamber Annual Membership Banquet took place on Tuesday, February 5th. It was a great opportunity to communicate with the business community regarding its activities. It also provided an avenue to recognize several men and women who make a significant contribution to our community. Over the next two weeks, I want to share with you the details of these award winners.

Last week’s column featured the Chamber Dedicated Service Award, presented to CCCC President, Dr. Bud Marchant; and the Duke Energy Citizenship and Service award, presented to Margaret Murchison, the News Director for WWGP/WFJA Radio.

Another award presented at the Banquet was to Joe Clancy, owner of Express Employment Professionals. He was presented with the Business Advocate of the Year Award. This advocate works tirelessly to promote our business community, passionately fosters the entrepreneurial spirit, and often works behind the scenes.

Joe's career is focused on building business partnerships that help local companies succeed.  He is respected in the areas of both finance and human capital, and has been described as dependable, responsive, professional, and able to find creative solutions to challenges.

In addition to making significant contributions to our business community, our winner also supports our local non-profits by being a valued leader and generous financial contributor.  Our winner is a graduate of the Sanford Citizen’s Academy and has served in leadership positions with local organizations including the Chamber of Commerce and the Sanford Elks Lodge.  As a founding member of the Sanford Area Networking Group, our winner helps other businesses understand the importance of networking and the benefits of mutual business referrals. He understands that the right connections are “everything”.

Ultimately, it’s more about the community around him, than it is his own business. Business advocates are the people in our community who roll up their sleeves and do what is necessary to help others succeed.

Our winner has shared his expertise through blog posts for the Sanford Area Growth Alliance on topics such as leadership and employment. Express Employment Professionals is known for producing high-quality leadership simulcasts and job skills training videos, provided at no cost to community members.  This same organization helps many local businesses complete their local workforce by finding qualified individuals to fill part-time and full-time temporary and permanent positions.  As he has been known to say at Chamber functions, he helps “good people get good jobs with great companies.”

Congratulations to Mr. Joe Clancy. Next week’s column will feature the Small Business of the Year winner.
